Hello everyone! Welcome to my blog. This blog is here to mainly keep me accountable to myself where my language studies are concerned. I feel like the only way to do that is to have an audience. I've debated whether to do this or not mainly because I am worried that it will turn into a studygram/blog where pretty pictures are posted instead of focusing on language studies. As a result I've decided that I won't be beautifying anything I post on here. This blog will contain my struggles, my triumphs and the occasional tips that I have found helpful in my studies. Sometimes it will also be about a resource that I have come across, or a book and sometimes a teacher that I might recommend.
I've been learning a language for as long as I remember. I've learned and forgotten French, and German. I've learnt Irish and Latin which I hope to revive and refresh and lately I've been learning Korean and Chinese. On this blog you will see posts about my Irish, Korean and Chinese studies and when I unpack my books about my Latin studies as well.
I leaned German and French at school then promptly forgot them when I graduated and then around 2012 or 2013 I started studying Irish. I kept at it for a while then it kind of fell by the way side as a serious study but I have refreshed my skills from time to time. Then I studied some Latin around 2014/2015 but that quickly fizzled because I just wasn't sure what kind of resources I needed to focus on.
I was a big fan of Kpop and K-drama in the 1990s when it wasn't as popular as it is now and can remember groups like H.O.T. SHOTS, SECHSKIES, SHINHWA, and G.O.D. That sparked my interest int he Korean culture, but I really started to love Korean when I started to really Stan kpop groups. I love Big Bang, Shinee, VIXX, TVXQ, Kim Jaejoong, but my main love is EXO. I started seriously learning Korean in the second half of 2018. I've started and stopped so many times but now I really have a goal in mind and I want to achieve it. I want to take the TOPIK test in 2022 (originally it was going to be this year but...Thank Corona!). So I need to really apply myself. I want to score at least at the level 2.
In 2020, I decided that I also wanted to study Chinese because my work might require it but also because I love C-pop and C-dramas. I love Luhan, Kris Wu, and Z.Tao (former EXO members), Lucus, Mark (from WayV and NCT) and Jackson Wang (from Got7). But my main love is Zhang Yixing (also known as Lay from EXO). My Goal is to take the HSK test in 2022. I'm hoping for at least Level 2 if not higher.
Happy Learning!
